How to use the calculator?

Step 1: Choose your dog size (small, medium, or large). Step 2: Choose the food quality (economy, premium, or super premium). Step 3: Enter the annual vet cost. Step 4: Enter additional monthly costs (accessories, grooming, insurance). The result shows your monthly and annual cost.

Calculation example

Example: medium dog, premium food (200 PLN/month), vet 600 PLN/year (50 PLN/month), extra costs 80 PLN/month. Monthly cost: 200 + 50 + 80 = 330 PLN. Annual cost: 330 x 12 = 3,960 PLN.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to own a dog per month?

The average monthly cost of owning a dog ranges widely depending mainly on the size of the animal, food quality, and veterinary expenses.

Why does dog size affect the cost?

A larger dog eats more food, needs larger doses of medication, and often requires more expensive veterinary procedures. That is why the monthly food cost increases with dog size.

What is the difference between economy, premium, and super premium food?

Economy food is the cheapest but often contains more fillers. Premium and super premium foods have a higher meat content and a better balanced composition, which raises the price.

It uses a matrix: each combination of dog size and food quality has an estimated monthly amount. For example, a medium dog on premium food costs about 200 PLN per month.

The annual vet cost is divided by 12 to get a monthly figure. At 600 PLN per year this equals 50 PLN per month.

Include accessories (leashes, beds, toys), grooming (groomer, anti-parasite products), and any insurance premium. By default we assume 80 PLN.

The calculator multiplies the monthly cost by 12. For a medium dog on premium food (330 PLN/month) the annual cost is around 3,960 PLN.

Dog insurance can protect against high, unexpected treatment costs, especially for surgeries. It is worth considering for breeds prone to genetic conditions.

Buy food in larger packs and during promotions, prioritize veterinary prevention, learn basic grooming at home, and compare insurers and clinics.

No. The calculator estimates recurring monthly and annual costs. One-time costs like buying the dog, a carrier, or sterilization should be added separately.

Results are estimates. Actual dog ownership costs depend on the breed, health condition, region, and the individual needs of the animal.
