A mechanical engineer earns in Poland on average around 8500 PLN gross per month. The pay range reaches from 5000 PLN for juniors to 16000 PLN for experienced seniors and technical leads running complex projects.
What does a mechanical engineer do?
A mechanical engineer designs, analyses and optimises mechanical systems — from individual machines and devices to entire production lines and industrial structures. They create models and documentation in CAD/CAM software, carry out strength calculations, select materials and technologies, plan budgets, manage technical projects and oversee prototyping, implementation and ongoing production processes. Increasingly they also handle line automation, robotisation and solutions in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
What affects earnings?
- Specialisation — automation, renewables and precision mechanics pay more than traditional manufacturing.
- Industry — aerospace, automotive and energy offer the highest rates.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) and design.
- Licences, industry certifications and experience in project management.
Regional differences and by experience
Salary rises with seniority and responsibility. A junior typically earns 5000–7000 PLN gross, an independent engineer 7000–10000 PLN, and a senior or technical lead 11000–16000 PLN gross per month. In Warsaw and large industrial centres such as Silesia, Wroclaw or Rzeszow (the Aviation Valley), rates are noticeably higher than the national average.
Demand and prospects
Reindustrialisation, the growth of electromobility, plant automation and investment in energy keep demand for mechanical engineers high. Specialists combining mechanical knowledge with skills in automation, programming and data analysis have very good employment and promotion prospects. Additionally, the growth of 3D printing, sustainable design and digital twins opens new career paths, and English proficiency makes it easier to work in international engineering teams.
