A veterinarian earns in Poland on average around 7500 PLN gross per month. The pay range stretches from 4806 PLN (the 2026 minimum wage) for veterinary assistants to 14000 PLN for specialists and owners of private clinics.
What does a veterinarian do?
A veterinarian diagnoses and treats animal diseases, performs surgical procedures, carries out vaccinations and preventive and dietary care. They collect samples for laboratory tests, interpret imaging results and maintain medical records. Specialisations cover companion animals, exotic animals, horses and farm or production livestock, where oversight of food safety plays an important role.
What affects earnings?
- Clinical specialisation and scope of practice (small animals, horses, livestock).
- Owning a private practice versus employment in a clinic.
- Location — big cities pay more than rural areas.
- Postgraduate diplomas, years of experience and reputation among clients.
Regional differences and by experience
Salary rises clearly with experience. A veterinary assistant typically earns 4806–5500 PLN gross, an independent veterinarian 5500–9000 PLN, and a specialist or clinic manager 10000–14000 PLN gross per month. In Warsaw and other large agglomerations rates are higher than in the provinces, where, however, veterinarians serving livestock farms enjoy steady demand for their services.
Demand and prospects
A growing number of pets and higher spending by owners on healthcare increase demand for veterinarians. The long period of education (5–6 years) and the need for continuous professional development limit the supply of specialists, which stabilises employment and supports rising rates for experienced practitioners. Growth in imaging diagnostics, veterinary dentistry and oncology opens additional, well-paid niches, and practices combining clinical services with the sale of food and accessories increase income potential.
