How we calculate FIRE

FIRE capital = annual spending / withdrawal rate (4% by default). Time to FIRE depends on your savings rate and investment return.

Example: monthly spending 5 000 zł, return 7%

Target FIRE capital: 5 000 × 12 / 4% = 1 500 000 zł.

Frequently asked questions

What is FIRE?

FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early — building enough investments to live off them without needing a job.

What is the 4% rule?

It assumes you can safely withdraw 4% of your portfolio each year, so your target capital is 25 times your annual spending.

How much do I need for FIRE?

Multiply your annual expenses by 25; for 60 000 zł a year you need about 1 500 000 zł.

No, it is based on historical US market data; weaker future returns may require a lower withdrawal rate.

Lean FIRE covers a modest budget, while fat FIRE targets a larger portfolio for a more comfortable lifestyle.

Increase your savings rate, cut expenses and invest consistently — the savings rate matters more than income alone.

Result is indicative. The 4% rule is based on historical data — future returns may differ.
