How we calculate the PIT refund

Taxable base = annual income − deductible costs − reliefs and deductions. Tax due: 12% on income up to 120,000 PLN (after the 30,000 PLN tax-free amount) + 32% on the excess above 120,000 PLN, reduced by the tax-free relief (3,600 PLN). Refund = advances paid − tax due. A negative result means an amount due.

Example of a tax refund calculation

An employee earned 72,000 PLN gross during the year. Deductible costs: 3,000 PLN. Base: 69,000 PLN. Tax due (12% scale, after the tax-free allowance): (69,000 − 30,000) × 12% − 3,600 = 4,680 − 3,600 = 1,080 PLN. Advances paid: 5,000 PLN. Refund: 5,000 − 1,080 = 3,920 PLN.
