How the calculator values a business

EBITDA method: Value = EBITDA x multiple Revenue method: Value = Revenue x (multiple / 5) (revenue multiple scaled from EBITDA multiple; typical for ~20% EBITDA margin) Average method: Value = (EBITDA value + Revenue value) / 2 EBITDA margin (%) = EBITDA / Revenue x 100

Example: company with EBITDA PLN 500,000, revenue PLN 2,000,000

EBITDA PLN 500,000, multiplier 5x, EBITDA method: value = 500,000 x 5 = PLN 2,500,000. EBITDA margin = 25%. Revenue method: 2,000,000 x (5/5) = PLN 2,000,000. Average: (2,500,000 + 2,000,000) / 2 = PLN 2,250,000.

Frequently asked questions

How do you value a business using EBITDA?

Value = EBITDA x industry multiple. Example: EBITDA PLN 500,000 x 5x = PLN 2,500,000. Polish SME multiples typically range from 3–8x.

What is EBITDA?

EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) is operating profit before those items. It reflects a company's cash-generating ability from operations.

What multiple should I use?

Service SMEs: 3–5x. Retail: 4–6x. IT/SaaS: 8–15x. Manufacturing: 4–7x. Companies with recurring revenues get higher multiples.

How does the revenue multiple method work?

Value = Revenue x revenue multiple. The calculator scales the revenue multiple as industry multiple / 5. Useful for companies with low or negative EBITDA.

What is EBITDA margin?

EBITDA margin = EBITDA / Revenue x 100%. A 25% margin means 25 cents of EBITDA per dollar of revenue. Higher margins (>20%) lead to higher valuations.

When should I use the average method?

Use the average when EBITDA and revenue valuations diverge significantly — for example a high-revenue, low-margin business. It provides a balanced mid-point estimate.
