How we calculate paint quantity
Formula: litres = area (m²) ÷ coverage (m²/l) × coats. The number of tins is rounded up to whole units. Always buy 10–15% more than the calculator result to allow for touch-ups and application losses.
Example paint calculation
Room: 50 m² of walls, paint coverage 10 m²/l, 2 coats. Calculation: 50 ÷ 10 × 2 = 10 litres. Tins needed: ten 1 L, or two 5 L, or one 10 L tin. Recommended: buy one 10 L tin plus one extra 1 L tin as a reserve.
Frequently asked questions about paint and painting
Calculator results are estimates only. Actual paint consumption depends on surface porosity, application technique, coat thickness, and ambient conditions. Always check the data on the paint tin label and consult a specialist.
