How the cake pan calculator works

The calculator computes the volume of each pan from its shape and dimensions: 1. Round pan: V = pi x (diameter/2)^2 x height 2. Rectangular pan: V = length x width x height 3. Square pan: V = side^2 x height Then: Scaling factor = Target volume / Original volume Multiply all recipe ingredients by the factor. Target servings = Original servings x Factor. With a larger factor the cake bakes longer — check with a skewer.

Example: from a 24 cm round pan to a 26 cm pan

The recipe is for a 24 cm round pan (diameter). Volume = pi x 12^2 x 6 = about 2714 cm^3. You want to bake in a 26 cm pan: volume = pi x 13^2 x 6 = about 3183 cm^3. Factor = 3183 / 2714 which is about 1.17. All ingredients should be increased by about 17%. If the recipe needs 200 g of flour, use 234 g. Servings: 8 servings originally gives about 9-10 servings from the larger pan.

How do I convert a recipe to another baking pan?

The key is pan volume. Compute the volume of the original and target pan, then factor = target volume / original volume. Multiply the amounts of all ingredients by this factor.

Does the baking time change when the pan changes?

Yes. A larger pan needs longer baking. With 10% more volume, add about 5-10 minutes. The oven temperature can stay the same. Always check doneness with a skewer.

How do I convert a round pan to a square one?

A 20x20 cm square pan has a volume similar to a round pan of 23 cm diameter (at the same height). The calculator automatically computes the volume of both pans and works out the exact factor.
