The average cost of a traditional funeral in Poland in 2026 is roughly PLN 8,000–15,000, and cremation PLN 6,000–10,000. Costs include: coffin or urn, funeral home service, cemetery fees, transport and extras (wake, flowers, notices). Prices vary significantly depending on the city and service standard.

The ZUS funeral benefit is PLN 4,000 — a fixed amount independent of the actual funeral costs. It is granted to the person who covered the funeral costs, usually a family member of the deceased. There are discussions about raising the benefit, but PLN 4,000 applies for 2026.

The funeral benefit is granted to the person who covered the funeral costs: a family member (spouse, children, parents, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren), as well as other persons or institutions (e.g. employer, municipality, care home). If several people shared the costs, the benefit is split in proportion to their expenses.

Yes. Farmers insured with KRUS and their family members are entitled to the funeral benefit on the same terms as with ZUS — the amount is PLN 4,000. The application is submitted to a KRUS branch with the death certificate and funeral invoices. You cannot claim the benefit from both ZUS and KRUS for the same person.
