How we calculate tiles

Number of tiles = room area / tile area. We add a 10–15% margin for cuts and breakages.

20 m² / 0.36 m² = 55.6

56 tiles + 10% margin = 62 pieces.

How much waste margin should I add?

Add at least 10% for a simple layout and 15% for diagonal patterns or rooms with many cuts. This covers offcuts and breakages.

How do I work out the area of one tile?

Multiply its length by its width in metres. A 60×60 cm tile equals 0.6 × 0.6 = 0.36 m².

Why buy a few extra tiles?

Spare tiles let you replace damaged pieces later. Production batches differ in shade, so a future top-up may not match.

Does the layout affect tile quantity?

Yes. Diagonal or offset patterns create more offcuts, so they need a larger margin than a straight grid layout.

Should I subtract doors and windows?

For walls you can subtract large openings, but keeping them in adds a useful safety margin for cuts and mistakes.

How are tiles usually sold?

Tiles are sold by the square metre in full boxes. Round your total up to whole boxes when ordering.
