How to use the calculator

Enter the volume (ml) and alcohol content (%) for each cocktail ingredient. You can enter up to 4 ingredients. Leave an ingredient's fields at 0 if you are not using it. The calculator returns total volume, ABV, pure alcohol weight, number of standard drinks, and estimated elimination time.

Calculation example

A drink made from 50 ml vodka (40%) and 200 ml juice (0%) has a total of 250 ml and an ABV of approximately 8%. Pure alcohol is about 15.8 g, equivalent to 1.6 standard drinks. Estimated elimination time is approximately 2.3 hours.

Frequently asked questions

What does ABV mean?

ABV stands for Alcohol By Volume. It is the percentage of pure ethanol in a drink by volume. For example, a drink at 8% ABV contains 8 ml of pure alcohol per 100 ml.

What is a standard drink in Poland?

In Poland, one standard drink contains 10 g of pure alcohol. This is the basis for the standard_units result in this calculator.

How is the elimination time calculated?

The calculator uses an approximate rate of 7 g of pure alcohol eliminated per hour, which is typical for an average adult. Actual rates vary by weight, sex, liver health and other factors.

Pure ethanol has a density of approximately 0.789 g/ml at room temperature. This is used to convert volume of pure alcohol (ml) to mass (grams).
