Car insurance calculator — OC and AC premium estimate 2026
Estimate your car insurance premium (OC/AC) in Poland. Based on driver age, no-claims discount and vehicle value. Indicative only, not an offer.
Selling your car or cancelling your MTPL (OC) policy? Enter the annual premium and the number of unused days and the calculator will work out your refund proportionally to the remaining insurance period.
Refund amount = annual premium x (unused days / 365). The result is rounded to the nearest grosz (PLN 0.01). The number of days is clamped to 0-365. The insurer is required to pay the refund within 14 days of policy termination.
For an annual premium of PLN 1200 and 183 unused days the refund is approximately PLN 601.64 (1200 x 183/365). The used portion of the premium is approximately PLN 598.36.
You are entitled to a refund of the unused portion of your MTPL premium when the policy is terminated before its expiry date. Common reasons include: selling the vehicle, scrapping it, theft, changing insurer by timely cancellation, or cancelling an automatically renewed policy. The legal basis is the Polish Act on Compulsory Insurance of 22 May 2003.
When you sell a vehicle, the MTPL policy automatically transfers to the new owner until the end of the policy period. You (the seller) can terminate the policy on the day of transfer or later. If the new owner cancels within 30 days, the refund for the remaining period goes to you as the original policyholder.
Refund = annual premium x (unused days / 365). Example: premium PLN 1200, 183 days remaining — refund = 1200 x 183/365 ≈ PLN 601.64. The insurer must pay within 14 days of policy termination.
Cancellation must be in writing — by registered letter, in person at the insurer's office, or electronically (email or online form). The deadline depends on the reason: on the day of vehicle sale or later; within 30 days of taking out a new policy (double insurance); or by the last day of the current policy period (auto-renewal).
The insurer has 14 days from the date of policy termination to refund the unused premium. If this deadline is missed, you are entitled to statutory interest for the delay. Many insurers process refunds faster, especially by bank transfer.
Yes. Scrapping (deregistering and dismantling) the vehicle is a legal ground for automatic policy termination. You should notify the insurer promptly with the certificate from the dismantling station. The refund covers the period from the deregistration date to the policy expiry date.
If you do not cancel your MTPL policy before it expires, it automatically renews for another year. To switch insurers, you must submit a cancellation notice no later than the day before expiry. If you miss the deadline, you can still cancel within 30 days of the renewal date, but you will only get a refund for the unused portion.
No. The refund of an unused MTPL premium is not taxable income. It is simply the return of a pre-paid fee for a service that was not fully rendered. It does not need to be declared on any income tax return.
Yes. When a vehicle is sold, the MTPL policy automatically transfers to the new owner until it expires. The new owner can continue the policy or cancel it within 30 days of purchase. If the new owner cancels, the refund for the remaining period is paid to the original policyholder (the seller).
