Admission to a Polish general high school (liceum ogólnokształcące) is based on a points system with a maximum of 200 recruitment points. These are made up of three components: results from the 8th-grade national exam (max 100 pts), grades from the primary school leaving certificate for four subjects (max 72 pts), and points for special achievements (max 18 pts). This calculator lets you estimate your total recruitment score in seconds. Simply enter your percentage results from the 8th-grade exam in Polish language, Mathematics and a Modern Foreign Language, select your school report grades for four subjects (Polish and Maths are mandatory; two more are chosen by the target school), and enter any achievement points. The calculator uses the official MEN conversion: each percentage point from the exam = 0.35 pts; grades convert as: celujący (6)=18, bdb (5)=17, db (4)=14, dst (3)=8, dop (2)=2. The result is indicative — the official score is determined by the school admission committee. Always check the admission regulations of your chosen school.
The calculator applies three scoring components: 1. 8th-grade national exam (max 100 pts): every percentage point from Polish, Maths and a Foreign language is multiplied by 0.35. A perfect 100% in one subject yields 35 pts. 2. School report grades (max 72 pts): four subjects (Polish and Maths compulsory + 2 chosen by the school) are converted using the official MEN table: celujący=18, bdb=17, db=14, dst=8, dop=2 pts. 3. Achievements (max 18 pts): prizes in national or regional academic competitions, regional-level sports or arts achievements, and volunteering activity. The calculator sums all three components. The result is indicative — official thresholds are published yearly by each school.
Exam results: Polish 80%, Maths 75%, Foreign language 85%. Conversion: 80×0.35=28 + 75×0.35=26.25 + 85×0.35=29.75 = 84 pts from the exam. School report grades: four 'very good' (5) = 4×17 = 68 pts. Achievements: 10 pts. Total: 84 + 68 + 10 = 162 recruitment points. For reference — admission thresholds in popular schools in large Polish cities are typically 150–185 pts.
The maximum is 200 recruitment points. These consist of: up to 100 pts from the 8th-grade national exam, up to 72 pts from school report grades (four subjects), up to 18 pts for special achievements, and up to 10 pts for additional criteria (exemplary conduct, volunteering, etc.) depending on the school.
Each percentage point from the exam is multiplied by 0.35. A result of 100% in one subject gives 35 pts. The exam covers three subjects: Polish language, Mathematics and a Modern Foreign Language, so the maximum from the exam is 3 × 35 = 105 pts — however many schools cap this at 100 pts in their own formula.
Grades from the primary school leaving certificate are converted as follows: celujący (6) = 18 pts, bardzo dobry (5) = 17 pts, dobry (4) = 14 pts, dostateczny (3) = 8 pts, dopuszczający (2) = 2 pts, niedostateczny (1) = 0 pts. Four subjects are counted, giving a maximum of 4 × 18 = 72 pts.
Special achievements (max 18 pts) include: finalist or laureate titles in competitions organised by a regional education superintendent (up to 10 pts), sports or arts achievements at regional level or above (up to 4 pts), and volunteering/community service (3 pts). The specific rules are set by each school in its admission regulations.
Polish language and Mathematics are always required. The two additional subjects are selected by each school and are usually related to the class profile (e.g. Physics and IT for a Maths-IT class, Biology and Chemistry for a Science class). Check the admission regulations of your chosen school to find out which subjects are counted.
Admission thresholds vary by school, class profile and academic year. Visit the website of your chosen school or the regional education authority (kuratorium oświaty) for your area. Many schools publish thresholds from previous years as a guide — they give a useful indication of the score needed.
The recruitment timetable is set by each regional education authority (kuratorium) separately. Typically: applications are submitted in May–June, certificates and exam result slips are added in mid-June, and lists of accepted candidates are published in mid-July. Check your regional authority's website for exact dates.
No. The calculator provides an estimate based on standard MEN formulas. The official score is calculated by the school admission committee using submitted documents. Results may differ slightly due to rounding rules or school-specific regulations. Always verify with the school directly.
If your score is below the threshold of your preferred school, you can apply to another liceum with a lower threshold, choose a technikum (technical high school) or a vocational school, or consider a class with a similar profile at a different school. You can also retake the 8th-grade exam the following year after additional preparation.
Yes — in many schools, an exemplary (wzorowe) mark on the school certificate gives 5 or 6 extra recruitment points, depending on local regulations. This calculator focuses on the three main components (exam, grades, achievements). Add conduct points manually if your target school awards them.
Results are indicative and do not constitute an official admission decision. The actual score is determined by the school admission committee based on submitted documents. Admission rules, including the choice of additional subjects and awarded achievements, may differ between schools. Always check the admission regulations of your chosen school on the school's or regional education authority's website.
